Volkswagen transitioned its newer models, including the 2018 and later Tiguan, the 2019 and later Jetta, the Atlas, and the ID.4, from R-134a refrigerant to R-1234yf. These two refrigerants are not interchangeable. A shop that isn’t equipped for R-1234yf either turns the job away or risks using the wrong refrigerant, which damages the system and voids coverage. Our service department has the equipment and certification to handle both refrigerant types across all VW model years. Beyond refrigerant, VW’s climate control systems on newer models include electronic components that require factory diagnostic software to properly test and calibrate. A pressure test alone doesn’t tell the full story on a modern VW AC system.
