The 6-speed wet-clutch DSG (DQ250), found in higher-torque applications like the Golf R and certain Atlas configurations, requires G 052 182 A2 fluid. The 7-speed dry-clutch DSG (DQ200), used in the Jetta, Golf GTI, Tiguan, Taos, and others, requires G 052 529 A2 fluid. These are not interchangeable. Using generic automatic transmission fluid or the wrong DSG spec damages the clutch pack and mechatronic unit, often without immediate symptoms, making the error difficult to trace until the damage is done. Beyond fluid, every DSG fluid exchange requires a mechatronic adaptation reset performed through VW factory diagnostic software. Without this step, the transmission control unit retains shift adaptation data calibrated to the old fluid, which causes noticeably degraded shift quality and can trigger fault codes. This reset is not possible with aftermarket scan tools. It requires the same factory software our technicians use on every DSG service.

If you’ve purchased a used VW and don’t have service records confirming DSG fluid history, an exchange and inspection is worth doing regardless of mileage, particularly on vehicles with the 7-speed dry-clutch DQ200, which is more sensitive to fluid condition than the wet-clutch DQ250.
